What to do for your dog’s digestive health

Updated: January 19, 2024

Like people, dogs can and do experience digestive health upset from time to time and/or chronic digestive disorders. These disorders affect the dog’s stomach and intestines resulting in discomfort for your dog - this is the main reason why keeping your dog's digestive health is a priority.

What causes digestive disorders?

Our dogs are curious, adventurous and they love to sniff, lick, gnaw or eat things that interest them. Diarrhea in dogs can be because of:

Allergies. Allergies in dogs (may it be food or seasonal) causes digestive concerns in dogs together with skin problems, ear infections, vomiting and the like.

Sudden change in diet. A dog's digestive system, though tough, also needs time to adjust to a new diet and new protein. It is recommended that you take it slow when changing his diet.

"Digestive problems can also be a major sign that there is something not right about your dog. These problems can be a symptom of distemper, parvovirus, kidney diseases, colitis and even cancer."

Food intolerance. Digestive problems can be your dog having trouble digesting certain foods. Food intolerance also causes them some physical reactions like bloating.

Diseases. Digestive problems can also be a major sign that there is something not right about your dog. These problems can be a symptom of distemper, parvovirus, kidney diseases, colitis and even cancer.

Parasites. This is the frequent cause of digestive problems in dogs. These parasites infect the digestive tract, causing diseases.

There are supplements, vitamins and minerals that help aid your dog's digestive health. But there are also organic compounds that are necessary to sustain life. Most are found naturally in food - like probiotics and bladder supplements that aids for total health.

Probiotic supplements

Probiotics are nutritional supplements for dogs known to contain good bacteria that improve digestion & nutrient absorption, & strengthen immune functions.

It supports good bacteria in the gut while helping your dog's body get rid of harmful bacteria, promoting overall digestive & immune health.

Probiotic actually contains a load of fiber, vitamins, & minerals that support your dog's digestive tract, helping relieve an upset stomach & treat diarrhea, constipation, etc.

What's greater is that probiotic contains pancrelipase enzymes that are necessary for the normal digestion of food, healthy detoxification & excretory processes and act as an anti-inflammatory.

Natural probiotics for dogs include dog yogurt that has bacteria found in human supplements and bacteria strains specific to dogs. There are also bitesize chews already available that are specifically manufactured with probiotics in them.

Probiotic SoftSupps® contain natural ingredients, like pumpkin, which is loaded with fiber and other nutrients to support proper digestion, absorption, and promote overall intestinal health. Our Probiotic SoftSupps® also contain our branded ingredient, MS-99®, which is clinically proven to increase effectiveness.

SoftSupps® have been certified by the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) to meet the highest quality standards. All of our SoftSupps® lead with whole meats and veggies, and include no fillers like rice or oats.

Bladder supplements

Bladder supplements, on the other hand, clean out bad bacteria, resulting in a healthier bladder health & urinary tract and help protect the bladder from irritants, soothing the urinary tract for comfortable urination & minimizing discomfort associated with bladder stones and infection.

Bladder supplements also promote cell growth, alleviate ulcers, support GI & upper respiratory health, & help treat liver toxicity & UTIs. To promote bladder function in dogs, we recommend Bladder SoftSupps®

Cranberry fruit can help support your dog's bladder. Dried fruit are okay for dog but in moderation.

Cranberry juice, on the other hand, help promote dog urinary health since it makes it harder for bacteria to stick to your dog's bladder.

If your dog’s diet is not providing a good nutritional value then it’s up to you to add these supplements so that he can benefit greatly.

If your dog has a digestive health problem, as a responsible pet parent, remember that only the vet can give your dog the correct diagnosis and prescribe proper treatment plan for your dog's digestive health.
