Fall Activities to do With Your Dog

As the summer season nearly bids goodbye, it is time to welcome the fall season with open arms. Fall is a beautiful time of year. It’s also a great season to spend more time with your dog.

Fall is a relaxing season filled with delicious food, fun activities and holidays like Halloween, and Thanksgiving. The calming fall season colors of nature and the cool weather open an array of opportunities to spend time with your dogs indoors or outdoors.

Discover a variety of fun and engaging fall activities to do with your dog— for a thrilling post-summer adventure!

Enjoy a Walk Together

Fall’s cool weather is the perfect time to take your dog on daily walks. Fall offers scenic foliage and the comforting smell of dried leaves for you both to enjoy.

This casual walk can also serve as your furbaby’s exercise. However, make sure your dog has flea and ticks prevention. After a walk, dog allergy wipes can help remove any environmental allergens or irritations on your furbaby. Allergy WiPees™ are hypoallergenic, gentle, contain no harmful ingredients, and help soothe your furbaby’s skin from irritation.

Dress Up for Halloween

Halloween is not just for us, it can be fun for our furbabies too! More planning goes into mixing and matching our dog’s Halloween costume than our own.

ASPCA Animal Hospital states that the most crucial thing to take into consideration when dressing your furbaby up for Halloween is their safety. It is important that they can move and breathe freely, that they feel comfortable & safe during Halloween, and are having fun as much as we are.

  • Your furbaby’s costume should not be too small to cause them breathing difficulties or too big that they might get tangled with it.
  • Avoid costumes that have small parts, like beads, buttons, or sequins, that your furbaby might swallow.
  • Avoid costumes that cover your dog’s eyes or ears.
  • Introduce your furbaby gradually to their costume. Have them wear it a few weeks before Halloween to accustom them to it.

Provide your furbaby with calming supplements to help them stay calm during stressful situations. You can also have them wear washable dog diapers to avoid any accidents.

What’s even better? These dog diapers come in a variety of colors and patterns, giving you the ability to match with any Halloween costume!

Trick or Treating

Going trick or treating with your furbaby can be a fun way to show off your costumes. Make sure that you take the time to prepare well before heading out to ensure that they are not overwhelmed with all that’s happening around. Provide your furbaby with calming supplements for dogs before going out.

It is also best that you plan your route in advance. Choose well-lit streets your furbaby is used to. Avoid going to crowded neighborhoods to prevent your dog from getting overwhelmed from stressful situations.

  • Make sure your dog wears a collar and is on a leash. That way if they get startled or frightened, they are not able to escape and run off.
  • Make sure to have your pet’s ID tags with you. Make sure it includes your updated contact information along with important vet details in case of an emergency.

Go on a Dog-Friendly Pumpkin Patch Trip

One activity you can’t miss this fall is pumpkin picking! There are a lot of pet-friendly farms or pumpkin patches everywhere.

The various sights and smells of the farm will also help provide mental stimulation for your dog. They would be so excited to run around and sniffing out the perfect pumpkin with you!

Carve Pumpkins

After your pumpkin patch trip, ready your pumpkin-carving supplies! Pumpkin carving can be fun especially if you are doing it with your dog. Try carving your dog, or their paw print, on the pumpkin!

Make Pumpkin Treats

Did you know pumpkins are good for dogs? Pumpkins are great for making dog treats!

Pumpkins are packed with nutrients. Vitamin A and Lutein help with your dog’s eyesight, Vitamin C reinforces the enzymatic responses of your furbaby and iron helps regulate the proper flow of oxygen. Pumpkin also keeps your furbaby’s skin and coat moisturized, resulting in reduced flaking and shedding. Read more about the benefits of pumpkin here.

Pumpkin for Dogs, Pumpkin Treat for Dogs, Can Dogs Eat Pumpkin?

To make it even more fun, you can use the pumpkin treats you made for enrichment activities. Use Forager® Mat to hide the pumpkin treats. These snuffle mats bring out your furbaby’s innate foraging skills.

Dive in a Pile of Leaves

Who doesn’t love jumping into piles of leaves? Even dogs do! You can have the leaves in your lawn raked and you can pile them up high so your furbaby can run, jump, and dive all they want. Your dog may also love to chase falling leaves and may even try to catch them.

If your furbaby is a bit hesitant at first, you can try jumping into the pile of leaves first or toss their favorite toy or ball into the pile to encourage them to jump in the pile, too. Be sure to always check for ticks before going inside the house. Wipe them with Pet WiPees™ Skin & Coat to wipe away environmental allergens or irritants and keep them clean.

Attend Pet Parades

Attending pet parades in your area is a fun way for you and your furbaby to interact with other pet parents and their pets! If there are none, it is also a good choice to volunteer at local animal shelters with your furbaby.
